Bike Religion Club Cyclist was Killed in Newport Beach

I have never met Daryl, but this hits close to home. I've ridden this area numerous times, and it is only a few blocks away from where we held the This Will Hurt Race. Please read the brief article below:


Bicyclist killed in Newport Coast

Accident near Tesoro and Ridge Park Road leaves one dead.

NEWPORT COAST A man riding a bicycle died Thursday evening after being hit by a vehicle, authorities said.

Daryl David Benefiel was riding south on Ridge Park Road when he collided with a vehicle making a left hand turn from Tesoro about 5 p.m., said Newport Beach police Det. Bill Bennett.

Investigators were still at the scene of the accident late Thursday near the corner of Ridge Park Road and Tesoro. Driver Nathan Tsuchiya was not hurt.

It was unclear whether Benefiel was wearing a helmet.

The investigation into the accident is ongoing.
