Well, this is the 1000th post on the Doom blog, and its clearly evident that this site has only a semblance of its original objective, anymore. Alas, I've become the worst kind of cyclist - a blogger. Its been around 2 years since anything of Doom orientation has been posted on here, and while its been fun trashing the scene that we helped start, and hopefully, raising the eyebrows of a few "fixie" kids towards other kinds of cycling. I don't see the purpose in continuing to post under the Doom banner. I have another blog in the works that I hope will be better suited for the masses, and its time to focus on that. Its been a good ride, and I am truly appreciative for the hundreds of you that check this site everyday. I will be posting a link here to the new site in a couple of weeks should any of you see fit to join me over there.

I would like to leave this last post open to the video that, really, started it all, and was the reason that most of you ever came this way in the first place. Over and out. Doom por vida.

Did a short & sweet climb this morning. The ascent is horrible, and the descent is terrifying. Gravel is so abundant that I decided to do a little non-knobby cross riding at the top of the climb. I did a couple miles back there, and I'm really starting to love riding the roadie on smoother trails:

Another shitty cell phone pic from a morning ride. Its been raining, here in the mountains, for the past few days. This equates to faster descents, and little braking power. In addition, this is the first decent ride that I've had since riding carbon 24/7 for a few days last week. I was afraid that I was going to hate my bike after all the Parlee's and Cervelo's, but the fit is dialed in for me & I really enjoyed the feel. All in all, I did some unfamiliar back routes for a short ride with 3k of climbing. I would have done more, but the humidity was nasty.

I really went all out, today. For some reason (maybe Voeckler fever) I decided to ride the three highest climbs around my house for a total gain of 5000' of gains in well under 12 miles of riding. The first climb was the hardest by far, with 1000' of gains in under 1.25 miles = around 15-18%. I'm a little worn out, but I'm having an amazing cappuccino, and watching the Tour again today. Enjoy the views:

Another list of shitty cell phone pics of a morning ride. Here in the mountains, we only have around 3-4 great months of riding. This Summer has brought crazy weather, though. We've been having daily thunderstorms, and when its been warm, the wind is blowing hard, bringing more shit weather. I decided to play around in the alpine roads this morning, but the 20+ head wind turned a 50mph descent into a 35mph one - kind of a bummer. Here's a little photo of the gorgeous views while they last:

bradley wiggins crashed out today with a broken collar bone - I think that there was a good chance for him to podium this year. The fella' lost a great deal of weight, and looked to be in top form. The crash left a chase group of over 80 riders, and killed the gc chances for Leipheimer, Horner and Voelker.

oh the old days. I remember this doc being inspiring at one point in my life, and maybe its my pessimism or harsh real-life experiences against a former sense of idealism, but I find this kind of sad now. Its almost like watching a campaign reel the night after your candidate lost. What the fuck happened? Regardless, its still an entertaining insight into the roots of the cycling advocacy movement, and at the least, a look into the roots of Critical Mass.
